Letter Press Experiments

Anthology II
Today I made a lot of experiments in relation to our final anthology. I started my process in laser cut by cutting some designs from my 10 sketches;I ended up doing another two laser cuts which was a more detailed fist and a illustrative drop cap because they were relevant sources from my research and the fist from before was very abstract and I wanted it to be made clearer.
I then moved onto letter press where I turned my laser cuts into stamps, I created small prints from samples I got from GF Smith and I love the outcome of these prints because some of them work great with the textured paper and it gives my designs an extra boost in how far I can experiment with them. To keep in mind when I printed onto the shiner pieces of paper, it took a very long time for the ink to dry so I had to be very careful not to get any smudges!

CIP: GF Smith

CIP: Collection

Today a representative came from GF Smith to talk to us about various types of paper. I was fascinated by the vast quantity of paper and the overall quality; There were lots of paper to look through but it gave me a better understanding of how some papers react when ink is applied to them and also how they were manufactured.

The most interesting piece that I enjoyed the most was a folder that she revealed to the class; you had to un-strip a piece of paper to get to the book inside and it just fascinated me because it was like opening a present on Christmas! I want to explore the idea of having a cover for my final book so I can have the same experience opening it too.

Final Show Preparation!

Material Process Print

Today I had a workshop to help create flyers and foldable promotion for our Material Process Print exhibition that will be happening next Friday. We created all the content using the letterpress room but first we had to create samples to figure out how all the sentences fitted onto A5 card. Once we were happy with our idea we created all the flyers and foldables which came out very successful
